Evaluation for unit 2

                        Unit 2 Evaluation.

Use of equipment:

When i first started Media Nationals I had no idea how to use Photoshop and final cut.
I have used cameras with tripods in the past when i did a plasticine animation activity in the Wem Town Hall when I was 13 years old. In this activity i did use final cut but only towards the end. That is why I did not know how to use it when I took Media Nationals as a subject. I have also learnt how to use Blogger. I use Blogger to upload and post my work on my own blog. This is good because if i loose a file on the computer, then it will be safe on my blog.

Saving/storing material:
When ever I create a folder for my work I always give it an appropriate name that is relevant to the topic and easy to remember e.g. Magazine cover, music video treatment, research etc. When I name the folder I always save it in My Media folder and NEVER on the DESKTOP. If I save work on the desktop then i could loose it because the computer could brake and it would not be on the network for me to find.

Working accurately:
When ever I used a photo in my work I would crop it to make it look more neat. I also check my grammar to make sure that the writing that I have done makes sense and doesn't look like complete gibberish. I also check my spelling to also make sure that my work makes more sense and looks a lot more professional.

Creative:
Creativity has really helped during Media Nationals e.g. Art skills, creative writing etc. My creativity with Photoshop has improved because I now know how to use it. Using Photoshop has helped me to design and create magazine covers, movie covers and other artistic designs.

Strongest Skills:
When I started the course, my strongest skills where drawing and using a camera with a tripod. I still have these skills along with another skill that I have learnt, and that is Photoshop. I have learnt Photoshop by reading help sheets which show how to use Photoshop and what each button does in Photoshop.

Skills that need improvement:
A skill that I am still struggling with is Final Cut Express. I have used it in an animation activity but I only used it towards the end of the activity. That is why I did not know how to use it when I took Media Nationals as a subject.
I am good with filming but I am still struggling with loading the video tapes e.g. uploading them on to Youtube and Final Cut Express. I struggle with the video uploading because it links to final cut.
I have improved with Photoshop by asking a friend who is good at it to help me, and by reading help sheets.

Research Report.

Research Report.

1. What I have researched and why.

The research I have been undertaking has been focussed on attempting to find out about many things about the form of the Music Video. The research has looked into various aspects including the analysis of music videos from the same artist and, more loosely, the same genre.

Most of the videos that I researched were by the same artist and therefore the same genre. The other music videos that i researched where of a different genre and where different artists.
The music videos demonstrate genre characteristics by using the same electronic theme e.g.
There is also a relation between the lyrics and the visuals e.g. The lyrics are to do with computers and technology which illustrates the visuals of an electronic theme.

The music also relates to the visuals e.g. the music sounds like it is computerized, therefore it links to the computer/electronic theme. The music shows off the same visuals as the lyrics do. I have also researched other videos from the same artist's and learnt a few thing of them too e.g. wardrobe, camera effects, camera shots, camera movement, editing and locations.

2. What my findings are and what I have learnt.
I have learnt that all of the daft punk music videos have one thing in common e.g. they use bright colors and well blended colors, like red and black, blue and yellow and pink and purple.
The locations are also very similar e.g. alien planets and city's.
And in one video the lyrics for the song are actually flashing on a TV screen.
I have also learnt Daft Punk's wardrobe is very unusual compared to other music videos preformed by other artists. ( robot helmets and leather over all's).

3. How my findings have effected my ideas.
This research has not changed my ideas because my idea is more creative than the research and the narrative and the theme of my video idea creates a very creative story.
In my opinion my idea relates to the electronic genre very well and does not drift away from that genre.
There is not much that I would like to improve except for the color scheme and talking about the lighting effects.

Coldplay video screen shots

Paradise: The screenshots are linked together with the other videos by using bright neon lights shining at the end of the video. They also relate to some of the other videos by sowing the band preform, although it it only shows them performing at the end (and they are dressed as elephants).

Every Teardrop is a waterfall: Nearly all of the screenshots from this video are linked to other coldplay videos because they use bright colors. (this video shows a lot more colors than paradise). They relate to the other videos because they show the band performing through out the whole video.

Christmas lights: This video shows a lot of bright colors, (just like the other videos) but are more to do with Christmas lights rather than explosions of color, hens the name Christmas lights. Once again this video shows the band performing, but they look more sad and less exited.

Strawberry swing: Unlike some other coldplay videos, this one does not show the band performing at all.   Instead it shows the lead singer in a stop motion world ( They did stop motion by painting pictures on the ground and using the lead singer as the main character).
